learndirect scotland branded learning centres (blcs) offer different ways of learning that are often more informal and flexible than the traditional environment.

Support for learners is crucial to the success of a learndirect scotland branded learning centre, and at the heart of this is the learndirect scotland Pledge to Learners.

Why apply for learndirect scotland branded learning centre (blc) status?

As you would expect, there is a robust learning provider registration process for ILA Scotland and being able to provide evidence of quality assurance standards is a pre-requisite of becoming an ILA Scotland learning provider.

Being a learndirect scotland branded learning centre is one of the recognised standards which, once held for 6 months, can allow providers to undertake the application process to become an ILA Scotland learning provider.

Please note that this application process is specifically for learning providers who do not hold one or more of the following quality assurance standards:

  • Scottish Funding Council recognition of good standing regarding Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education and/or recognition of good standing regarding the requirements of HM Inspectorate of Education (HMI).
  • Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) initial approval as an SQA approved centre

and wish to undertake the application process to deliver ILA Scotland learning opportunities via learndirect scotland branded learning centre status.

Guidance for providers:

  • All providers must be registered on the national learning opportunities database (NLOD).
  • Providers are required to complete an online survey in order to assess whether or not they are ready to become an approved learndirect scotland branded learning centre.  Once completed an application form will be emailed to you.
  • Please refer to Pledge to Learners Toolkit for guidance when completing your application.
  • We only accept electronic versions of the application, please email applications to branding@learndirectscotland.com
  • The application process for learndirect scotland branded learning centre status takes approximately 3 to 4 months.
  • Learning providers who successfully gain learndirect scotland branded learning centre status must hold this standard for at least 6 months before they are eligible to apply for ILA Scotland.
  • ILA Scotland provides a Definition of Eligible Learning (DEL) to help you assess whether your courses will qualify for ILA Scotland funding. The DEL forms part of the Operational Rules and Supplementary Guidance document. We strongly advise that you check this before you begin the application process.
