learndirect scotland launched in October 2000 with a core goal to drive demand for lifelong learning, placing the learner at the heart of our mission. 

We work closely with our key partners which include, crucially, the network of more than 515 learndirect scotland branded learning centres.  These centres have challenged the culture and ways in which people learn.  While adopting the methods and approaches that best facilitate learning, they have tailored learning to individual needs.  

Branded learning centres offer different ways of learning that are often more informal and flexible than the traditional environment. The informal nature of a centre can reinforce learning as a positive choice and there is a breadth of learning opportunities available to learners.

Learning centre support is crucial to the success of the learning centre network, and at the heart of this is learndirect scotland's Pledge to Learners.  Each learner needs access to a whole range of support agencies - some may never use this level of support, but it has to be there. This quality of learner support is a distinguishing feature of a learndirect scotland learning centre.

Alongside the Pledge to Learners, learndirect scotland wants to be sure that learning centres can demonstrate quality in the learning process, in managing the learner's experience and in connecting the learner to the next piece of learning to ensure progression and the transferability of skills
