Lorraine Watters is administrator for Business Training Services (BTS) in Greenock, and was one of the first people to start using PROMT.
BTS delivers commercial training and various New Deal courses in Glasgow and Lanarkshire. It also runs a Government-funded Get Ready for Work programme for 16-18 year-olds
in Port Glasgow.
“We are also an ILA Scotland registered provider and run courses for people who want to better their careers or improve their qualifications,” explained Lorraine.
"Our courses have been on the learndirect scotland NLOD for years, since it was first established. A lot of the time, when people come in to us, they already know the details of the course they want to do because they found the course on the learndirect scotland website or called the helpline.
“One thing that I have noticed is that a lot more people must be using the websites. When ILA Scotland first started, learners would come to us and we would have to tell them about it, how to open an account, etc. Now, though, they come in and they already have their ILA Scotland funding and know exactly what they want – a three day forklift truck course starting in two weeks, for example. It’s great – exactly the kind of learners we want to see!”
Lorraine uses PROMT and particularly likes the fact that she can take charge of the BTS course information herself.
“You can just log in, add courses, change prices, whatever you need to do, then publish that change. The tool gives you access to your courses then and there, you fire through the changes, and it’s done.”
She also appreciates having a dedicated learning information specialist at learndirect scotland.
“I have had a lot of help right from the beginning, with using PROMT and with getting information about ILA Scotland. If I ever get into a panic, it’s really good to have one person because, let’s face it, everyone has different ways of doing things, and if you feel like it’s an emergency, the last thing you want is to speak to lots of different people”
