Boomerang joins network
A charity based in the heart of the Stobswell community in Dundee is helping local people get into learning – and into work.
Boomerang, attached to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Albert Street and recently refurbished following a huge fundraising effort by the community, provides courses and a range of other activities to local people.
Boomerang’s latest success – becoming part of the learndirect scotland national network of learning centres – was marked at an event recently when a plaque was presented to Boomerang chairman Joe Morrow by learndirect scotland manager Ailie Ferrari.
Boomerang offers courses in basic computing, website design and food hygiene, among others, plus other activities such as keep fit and Tai Chi. It also offers support to disabled learners and to workers facing redundancy.
Joe said: “Boomerang is delighted to have been awarded branded status. The resources and support available through learndirect scotland will have a direct and positive benefit to learners in the local community.
“The array of online learning resources in particular will be a welcome addition. We are looking forward to reaching a wider audience of learners than would otherwise have been possible.”
Boomerang is the 21st learning centre in Dundee to achieve learndirect scotland status.
