Winner of the Student Learning category at this year’s Scotland’s Colleges Annual Awards was Glasgow Metropolitan College.
The award, sponsored by learndirect scotland, went to the college for its integrated literacies work.
The college runs three successful integrated literacies projects, part-funded by the Scottish Executive through initiatives relating to active citizenship, social inclusion and lifelong learning.
These projects provide examples of how college staff have used creative and innovative approaches in teaching and learning to provide successful educational, professional and personal outcomes for students.
The Adult Literacy and Numeracy (ALN) Project
Staff provide integrated literacy and numeracy support for students engaged on 13 entry-level courses
‘Our Glasgow’ - ESOL Media Project
A custom-written course developed by Glasgow Metropolitan College staff that was devised to meet the literacy needs of women living in Glasgow with English as a Second or Other Language.
CAN-GO
A project engaging with residents of Sighthill, including the local asylum-seeking population.
