Learning tasters offer to voluntary sector

e learning tasters

Games that offer an introduction to computing skills are being offered free to the voluntary sector, to help develop the skills of staff, volunteers and service users.
The learning tasters, on CD-ROM, introduce people to basic computer skills in a fun way through playing short games.
Around 300 organisations ordered the CDs when they were first launched last year.
An evaluation found that the tasters were used mainly by people with no experience of computers.
Users reported that the games were easy to use, entertaining and challenging, and the most popular game was Grand Test Auto.
The CD includes the following games:
Create a character – make your own cartoon character and choose how he/she looks and what his/her interests are Music mixer - choose your drums, riffs and chords and build your own electronic music Football challenge – play “keepy uppy” and test your knowledge of football Grand test auto – drive the car and see how much of the highway code you remember Music timeline – whether it’s the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s, music makes us tick – test your knowledge of who’s who and what’s what.
Simple computer tasks are required to play the games, such as using the arrow navigation keys, text entry and mouse control.
