The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is dedicated to discovering and describing plants and their relationships, evolution, conservation and biology.
It is a Scottish Executive non departmental public body and provides a diverse range of formal and less formal educational programmes for people of all ages, and at all levels from primary school to PhD.
Now the Garden’s commitment to lifelong learning has been recognised by learndirect scotland.
Frank Pignatelli CBE, chief executive of learndirect scotland, presented a plaque to Professor Stephen Blackmore, Regius Keeper, to mark the Garden’s achievement in gaining learndirect scotland branded status.
Education classes are delivered at the Gardens each year to primary and secondary school children, part-time adult learners and students studying as part of Higher National Diplomas and MSc and PhD programmes.
A range of adult learning programmes is also offered, from one-day courses to 10-week evening classes, in a variety of plant science and horticultural topics.
Leigh Morris, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s head of education, said: “Our mission is to deliver high quality horticulture and plant science-based education programmes across all levels, from primary school curriculum to post-graduate studies.”
