Give it a Go! events are community-based family fun days, aimed at encouraging people to get involved in learning.
The theme of Give it a Go! is fun, but the underlying message is that learning can be fun too. Its aim is to encourage local people to see the benefits learning can bring such as personal development or job opportunities.
Events have been held in partnership with a range of agencies including:
- local learning networks
- colleges
- Careers Scotland
- Jobcentre Plus
- Scottish Enterprise
- local community organisations
- learndirect scotland branded learning centres
Give it a Go! events cater for a wide range of interests, with demonstrations, taster sessions and information about a range of courses and other learning opportunities available in the local area.
By holding the fun days in local venues and involving the whole family in the experience, people are more inclined to get involved.
We encourage smaller, targeted events that are aimed at particular groups of people, such as the homeless, bme communities and young people.
These events are very popular, so we have developed DIY Give it a Go! kit to enable you to organise your own event in your community (all we ask is that you invite at least 2 other partners to the event who provide some kind of learning opportunities).
And of course we will provide an advisior.
The kit is lent to you free of charge - and it has a range of items to help you promote and run your event, from posters and leaflets to sticky tape and polaroid cameras!
We have also created a step by step guide to help you plan your event and to give you hints and tips on ways to make it as successful as possible.
The kits need to be booked at least eight weeks in advance to ensure you have enough time to plan your event, and for us to arrange printing of items.
